A wedding day at Villa Tripcovich commemorates the special day for my client in this beautiful Italian location. This piece was commissioned as a gift to celebrate the anniversary of the day.
My client picked out a few elements from their wedding day go in this scene – the location, the wedding cake, the music and the colors of their clothing needed to be present. An initial sketch capture their idea, and I was able to design this beautiful model from it.
The wedding was held at Villa Tripcovich in Trieste, Italy. The location itself is a country house with beautifully maintained gardens. The couple mostly celebrated the day with their guests around the pool, and the house itself is not viewable from this location.
This location is perhaps a gem of a location in that there are not many photos and videos showing it online. Their website has a nice enough gallery, which, along with a few photos from the wedding itself, helped me recreate this scene to represent the location.
The wedding photos shared by the client were used to design appropriate minifigures for the couple. The clothingare not identical to those of the day since I am limited by the designs that are produced by Lego, but I did my best to ensure the colors and the hair helped set the scene in respect of the original day.
A wedding is not complete without the cake! A three-tier cake on a table, along with other food and drink, was created to support the scene. DJ’s on the other side, provide the entertainment from the day, and help balance the scene. These two elements of the model help bring this scene to life!
The final model uses a total of 738 parts, and has a size of approximately 30 x 13 x 14 centimetres (Width x Height x Depth).
Reflections
The starting point for any model is the idea. The clearer it is communicated, the better chance I can make a model that matches the expectations. In this case, I had a brilliant starting point with a sketch created and provided by the client.

Along with photos, this sketch helped me get a good idea of what was in the clients mind, and was a really good jump start for the design.
This is the first time I have used mini figures in a model, and it was daunting at start. A person’s appearance is by definition very personal, and a mini figure reproduction is going to make compromises because of the choice of parts. It could be easy to offend with my mini figure interpretation, but I seem to have done well here.
Here is a little feedback from someone upon seeing this model: “You’ve really managed to capture the beauty and movement of the foliage and leaves so well!”
