Background
The Former Mill Road Library, a listed building known as the Cambridge City Branch Library, was originally built in 1892, and opened to the public in 1897. The library within the building closed in 1996. It was used briefly to shelter individuals who were experiencing homelessness, and was then leased by the Indian Community and Cultural Association.
The lease ended in 2019, and having been vacant for several years, the building was renewed to bring it back to a state where it is usable again.
The building is currently up for sale. As an Asset of Community Value, there is a 6-month grace period that allows interested community parties to put forward a bid for the building, ahead of it being available to potential commercial parties.
