Owning a home is an important milestone for many people. This is likely to be the most expensive purchase that a person makes in their life, and is a visible sign of financial stability. Over the recent years, it has become harder for people to purchase their own homes. Personal debts have risen, and the cost of homes have risen, but personal income hasn’t risen enough to cover them both.
This collection of clothing shows how, as children, we have been homeowners through play, using the sets that we might have created using LEGO®1 bricks.
I hope this helps as motivation whilst you, or perhaps friends around you, continue working towards the dream of owning a home.

Some of the first sets featuring a house appeared in 1964. This town house set demonstrated the home and also included a garden area with some foliage.

The set featuring a house with garage also was released in 1964, and came with a model car that went in the garage.
House with Garden
This house with garden appeared in 1978, and was one of the first sets that included minifigures. The set was unique in featuring a hinge that allowed the house to be opened up for display.

This set, from 1982, features two storeys. Downstairs is the kitchen and dining area, and upstairs is a bedroom with two beds. Outside is the garden, with a letter box, and an outdoor dining area.

This model, made with instructions in a 1987 basic building set shows the diversity of housing architecture today. Many disused building are being transformed into unique homes.
